Some say that Google owns the Internet. Or at least, that it thinks it does. It’s certainly true that it’s the world’s most popular search engine, with a global market share of almost 90%, and it’s also – apparently – the world’s most valuable brand (by the way, if you’re a business angel looking for your next investment, do let me know if you’d like to cough up $100bn for the debbidoo brand – I’m sure we can talk!)

But what many people don’t realise is just how much more Google is than a search engine.

Petha Ltd at Flickr

Today we’ve created a Flickr account for Petha Ltd, which owns and manages Caernarfon Things and Petha Caernarfon. We’ve uploaded the photos from our Caernarfon Things photo gallery, as well as a few more that didn’t make it into the gallery because it was already full. And we’ve included some photos of Clynnog Fawr, which is not far from Caernarfon – and soon, we’ll add photos of other places in the Caernarfon area.

We’re also thinking about creating a public group at Flickr, so that visitors can add their own photos to our photo stream. Is this something you’d use, if we created it? We could also create a group at YouTube, so that visitors can upload their own Caernarfon videos and have discussions with other group members. Again, if it’s something that visitors would like to use, we’re happy to do it – please get in touch and let us know!

Using Twitter for business

Twitter is a great tool for business – and that’s why, when Wyn and I came up with the idea of Petha, we always knew that Twitter functionality would be included from the word go.

It’s really catching on, both with businesses and social users – but there are still many businesses that haven’t yet caught on to how Twitter can help them promote themselves for free, to a potentially vast audience.
